Research assistant, Industrial Engineering and Management, Faculty of Technology

Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) discipline combines engineering and technology, business economics methods, and the human factors and behaviour. IEM is unique in its multidisciplinary approach and the integrative nature provides value and enhances efficiency and effectiveness in organisations. The IEM research focuses specifically on the following areas: operations and supply chain management, project business, product management, well-being at work and productivity. The IEM is a research unit within the Faculty of Technology. IEM conducts relevant research in its field, provides teaching, and influences the society.

About the job

As a research assistant, you work in the Industrial Engineering Research Unit as a diploma thesis worker. Your thesis focuses on the Talent Boost project coordinated by the Unit for Strategy and Science Policy at the University of Oulu. Talent Boost is a national programme that promotes the attraction, integration, and retention of international talents in Finland.

The aim of the thesis is to explore challenges related to quality employment and occupational integration from the perspectives of international employees and multicultural workplaces, and to find solutions and operating models to reduce the risks associated with the recruitment of international talent based in Finland, to utilize the expertise of international experts and to enliven the social debate in this area.

Who are you?

What we expect from you:

  • You have progressed well with your studies in Industrial Engineering and Management and ready to start your diploma thesis work.
  • Your written English is fluent, as you are expected to write your thesis in English. · We also appreciate Finnish language skills, as this can make communicating with ports and other Finnish stakeholders easier.
  • You have good cooperation and teamwork skills as well as solid interaction skills as you work with several stakeholder groups. · You are analytical, well-organized and have prior experience in organizing/facilitating discussions or (semi-)professional events

Salary

The position is fixed-term for six months as of 1.6.2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the level 1of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2100-2300 € per month (before taxes).
