Project Researcher

to join us in the Chemical Process Engineering Research Unit (CPE) at the Faculty of Technology for a fixed-term position lasting until 31.3.2026.

The research unit combines chemical and bioprocess engineering methodologies in their research. The valorization of biomass, especially the technological gaps in the sustainable utilization of lignocellulosic biomass to biochemicals and biomaterials, are the core sources of inspiration for CPE’s research. The specific research areas of CPE include chemical and biochemical conversion of biomass, new products and processes for industrial water treatment, and separation and recovery process synthesis and evaluation methodologies.

About the job

  • You will work on the research project “Safety in Storing and Transporting Hydrogen” co-funded by the European Union via Just Transition Fund.
  • Your research tasks for this position focus on evaluating systems and equipment for the storage and transport of pressurized and liquified hydrogen.

Who are you

We expect from you:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemical engineering, process systems engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics as well as skills in steady-state and dynamic process modeling.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience with system-level modeling and optimization.
  • Capability to disseminate research findings through publications and presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English or Finnish.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Salary

The position is fixed term for 13 months starting from 1.3.2025 (or as agreed) until 31.3.2026.

The salary will be based on levels 6-7 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 2600-3000 EUR per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.
