We are now seeking

Postdoctoral Researcher in Cybersecurity of Quantum Computing

to join us in the Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Research Unit and Oulu University Secure Programming Group (OUSPG) and M3S Empirical Software Engineering Research Unit at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE). 

You will join a multidisciplinary research group led by Prof. Juha Röning from the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Oulu, collaborating with the Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Group (BISG) and the M3S Empirical Software Engineering Research Unit. You will work in close collaboration with Professor Kimmo Halunen (BISG), Arif Khan (M3S), and the OUSPG on the Securing the Quantum Software Stack – SeQuSoS project. You will also work with a multidisciplinary team from different areas of expertise (physics, computer engineering, software engineering, and computer science).

About the job

The position is related to the Securing the Quatnum Software Stack—SeQuSoS project, which has been funded by Business Finland. The project's goal is to research cybersecurity-related issues in quantum computing and find new results that will help develop more secure quantum computing hardware and software in the future.

  • As a post-doctoral researcher you will conduct research and supervise doctoral researchers and students in the field of cybersecurity and quantum computing
  • You will teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to computer science and computer engineering, cybersecurity, and/or quantum computing
  • You are also expected to make research project and grant proposals and help in acquiring competing research funding and assist in the leading and management of the projects

Who are you?

We expect from you:

  • Doctoral degree in an applicable research field such as computer engineering, computer science, or physics. The degree must be obtained no more than 10 years ago.
  • Proven expertise in cybersecurity or in quantum computing. An ideal candidate would have experience in both areas
  • Proven teaching skills and qualifications in a university environment
  • To demonstrate the ability to work independently
  • Expertise in the field of research and required methodology via scientific international publications.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Salary

The position is fixed term for two years starting on 1.4.2025 or as soon as possible upon mutual agreement.

The salary will be based on levels OV 05-06 of the requirement level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 3700-4600 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.
