Faculty of Science, NMR Research Unit, Zhivonitko Research Group

The University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary, international research university, with about 4000 employees who produce new knowledge based on high-standards research and provide research based education to build a more sustainable, smarter, and more humane world. The University of Oulu community has about 17,000 people in total. Our northern scientific community operates globally and creates conditions for the emergence of innovations.

We are now looking for

a Postdoctoral Researcher (2 years)

to join us in the Zhivonitko Research Group, NMR Research Unit, Faculty of Science, University of Oulu.

The position is located at the NMR Research Unit within the Faculty of Science. The research unit consists of a multidisciplinary team of physicists and chemists working on experimental, theoretical and computational research on magnetic resonance as well as molecular magnetism. The research spans a wide field of topics at the intersection of chemistry and physics. The unit currently employs 37 people of whom about half have come from outside of Finland. The working language of the research unit is English.

About the job

This position is part of the Research Council of Finland research project ”Enhancing NMR Sensitivity Through Metal-Free Catalysis“ led by Professor Vladimir Zhivonitko and involves aspects of experimental NMR spectroscopy, nuclear spin hyperpolarization using parahydrogen, molecular modelling, and metal-free catalysis. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be part of a multidisciplinary research group and work on studying, designing, and applying new types of catalysts, specifically metal-free catalysts, for parahydrogen-induced polarization (PHIP) and signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE). The exact focus of the position will depend on the background and research interests of the postdoctoral researcher. We are open to all candidates who have strong background, experience, and enthusiasm in working at the intersection of chemistry, spectroscopy, and physics.
