Doctoral Researcher

to join us in the Research unit for Languages and Literature, English, at the Faculty of Humanities. 

About the job

The position is part of the Eudaimonia Institute, University of Oulu, funded project titled “Multiliteracy Expertise in Future Working Life: Interaction and Coexistence of Humans and Language-based AI Systems (MultiHAI)”. In the project

  • your role will include conducting applied linguistic research on multiliteracy expertise in working life
  • you will manage project-related tasks

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Master's degree in the field of English language studies. The degree must be completed before the start of the employment.
  • Qualitative research orientation with demonstrated research experience or interest
  • We expect the candidate to demonstrate a willingness to engage in the study of knowledge workers’ multiliteracy expertise in working life contexts
  • Experience in working with/handling data for relevant projects (e.g., in a thesis)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency in written and interpersonal communication skills in English

We also appreciate:

  • Finnish language skills
  • Experience in interaction analysis and/or discourse analysis
  • Experience in working with/analyzing video-recorded interaction data and/or multimodal discourse data
  • Experience in and/or readiness to data collection 

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 3 years as of 1.1.2026 or as agreed.

The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 2500-2800 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
