We are now looking for a

Professor in Clinical Chemistry

to join us in the Research Unit of Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine (20%), and the Northern Finland Laboratory Center Nordlab,Oulu University Hospital (80%) for a joint position.

Translational Medicine Research Unit is a multidisciplinary unit that conducts research covering the fields of translational research anesthesia, intensive care, surgery and cancer, and provides patient centered medicine to prevent, diagnose and treat human illness.

The position of Chief Physician in Northern Finland Laboratory Center NordLab is connected to this post and these two posts must be applied jointly.

About the job

As a professor you will be a dynamic individual who provides vision, leadership, and guidance in the field of clinical chemistry.

You will be responsible for both undergraduate and postgraduate training, and implementation of entrustable professional activities in postgraduate training as part of a clinician’s daily work.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • a doctoral degree,
  • high-quality scientific competence,
  • experience in supervising scientific research,
  • ability to give high-quality education based on research and supervision of doctoral theses,  
  • evidence of international collaboration in their field of research and training

The teaching language in University of Oulu is Finnish. Teaching in English is also possible.

Salary

The position is permanent as of 1.10.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 8-9 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 5700-6500 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.

If the position of the Chief Physician in Northern Finland Laboratory Center NordLab cannot be jointly filled with the post of Professor in Clinical Chemistry, or the recruitment committee disagrees about the suitable candidate, recruiting process of Professor in Clinical Chemistry in University of Oulu becomes void as well.

If the person chosen for the post of Professor in Clinical Chemistry resigns from the post of Chief Physician in Northern Finland Laboratory Center NordLab, the employment relationship in University of Oulu expires as well.

    5. Description of educational material (curricula, handouts, assignments, workbooks)
    6. Professional development as a teacher
    7. Evaluation of teaching (student evaluations, peer evaluations, awards, and assessed test lectures)
    8. Plans for future directions of teaching in the discipline concerned
  7. Details regarding acquisition of research funds 
  8. A brief research and action plan 
  9. Contact details of 2–4 persons available for recommendation.
