The Languages and Communication unit of the University of Oulu Extension School is now looking for an

Education Manager

to work with us on a permanent basis.

Languages and Communication offers language teaching in eight different languages to degree students at the University of Oulu. We also offer training based on the needs of university staff and working life. We continuously develop our courses in cooperation with all faculties and other stakeholders. Planning of our training programmes and courses is closely tied to working life and internationalization.

Tasks

• As Education Manager, you work as a line manager at the heart of a multicultural language and communication expert team. In this role, you are responsible for, among other things, employee orientation and competence development. 
• You will contribute to the internationalization of our multidisciplinary higher education community by developing multilingual education and language teaching pedagogy.
• In your work, you strengthen flexible language learning opportunities for lifelong learners across institutional boundaries.
• Your duties also include pedagogical development and elective studies’ curriculum work.
• You are responsible for communication and guidance related to study rights, as well as cooperation with partner institutions.
• You are a member of the management team of the Extension School at the University of Oulu, working closely with the Service Manager of Language and Communication.

What are we looking for?

To succeed and thrive in the task, you need:

• an applicable master's degree
• pedagogical expertise in language teaching
• excellent communication, cooperation and interaction skills for line management work and stakeholder cooperation
• excellent written and oral skills in Finnish and English
• good IT skills particularly in the use of digital communication tools and electronic systems.

In addition, we appreciate:

• experience in language and communication teaching
• managerial experience and HR management knowledge
• experience in developing education
• versatile language skills and experience in multicultural environments
• a proactive, enthusiastic, and research-based approach to the development of language teaching
• a good understanding of multilingualism, digital pedagogy, and accessibility, as well as a vision for developing these themes
• a doctoral degree, especially in the field of languages and communication.

Salary for the position

The position is valid until further notice as of 1.8.2023 or according to agreement.

The position is placed at the requirement level 11 of the other expert and support staff category according to the university salary scales. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance is paid, which is no more than 50% of the job-specific pay component. The salary for new employees in similar positions is typically 4,400–4,700  EUR/month. The position is subject to a 6-month probationary period.
