We are now looking for

a Doctoral Researcher

to join the M3S Cloud research group at the Empirical Software Engineering in Software, Systems, and Services (M3S), to work on empirical software engineering and data analysis.

M3S (Empirical Software Engineering in Software, Systems, and Services)  research unit at the Faculty of Information  Technology and Electrical Engineering at the  University of Oulu, Finland, M3S has a long tradition in industrial and international collaboration. It has actively participated in large European research projects since the 1990s. Over 30% of the research unit's staff are international. Members of the research unit have published their research in leading software engineering journals and conferences, e.g., IEEE Transactions on SE, IEEE Software, Empirical SE, Information and Software Technology, Journal of Systems and Software, and International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE).

Who are you?

The successful applicant will carry out their research in areas of empirical software engineering and data analysis, and statistical methods.

In particular, the candidate should work on the definition and validation of new methodologies to be applied in the context of empirical software engineering and on the definition of robust data analysis approaches to analyze time-dependent data in software engineering. We expect you to have:

  • A complete master’s degree in a related field, e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering. Students near completion can also apply. The degree must be completed prior to the beginning of the employment
  • Good English skills (writing, speaking)
  • Expertise in Empirical Software Engineering, data science, statistical methods for software engineering, and mining software repositories
  • See the requirements of the University of Oulu Graduate School.

Salary

The position is fixed term for 3 years, from 1.10.2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2300-2600 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.
