Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, ECM and Hypoxia

The University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary, international research university, with about 3,600 employees who produce new knowledge based on high-standards research and provide research based education to build a more sustainable, smarter, and more humane world. The University of Oulu community has about 17,000 people in total. Our northern scientific community operates globally and creates conditions for the emergence of innovations.

We are seeking

One Doctoral Researchers

who is highly motivated and talented to join our vibrant research community in Biocenter Oulu and in a Research Council of Finland project within the ECM-Hypoxia Research unit at the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine.

The ECM-Hypoxia research unit (ECMH RU) consists of five internationally strong research groups which perform globally recognized research on the extracellular matrix and hypoxia in health and diseases. We are equipped with leading-edge infrastructure in all fields of cell and structural biology. We are a highly international and interdisciplinary team.

About the job

The current projects aim to study hypoxia-signaling and metabolism, especially obesity. Our previous work shows that certain enzymes of the hypoxia pathway may act as central switches that could connect the networks for oxygen and nutrient supply. However, whether, and how, these switching mechanisms work is as yet unknown. This will be investigated in the work of this project.

If you are curiosity-driven and eager to interact with biochemists and structural biologists this might be an interesting offer for you.
