We are now looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher

to join us in the Research Unit of Population Health at the Faculty of Medicine to work for our stimulating pluridisciplinary research consortium Future School of Comprehensive Well-Being (SchoolWell).

SchoolWell includes researchers in diverse fields including social and life course epidemiology, biomedical data science, sport and health sciences, behavioural sciences, and education. Together, we aim at exploring complexity and development of students’ comprehensive well-being and means to enhance it at school. The consortium is funded under the Strategic Research Council (Academy of Finland) programme Children and young people – healthy, thriving and capable makers of the future (YOUNG).

About the job

The position is available from 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2025.

You will be using various types of data, focusing on multimodal intervention data to identify drivers of inequality and to detect equality gaps in students’ comprehensive well-being, including mental, physical and socio-pedagogical dimensions of well-being. You will participate in implementing SchoolWell intervention, including data collection in the schools, data management and analysis, and dissemination.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Doctoral degree in the field related to the study theme. Doctoral researchers near completion can also apply. The degree must be obtained no more than 10 years ago.
  • High motivation towards data science in both experimental and observational designs. Experience in school-based and/or other learning related research environments is a merit. 
  • Ability for independent scientific work.

The successful candidate will join an international multi-disciplinary research team and is therefore requested good communication skills in English (oral and writing).

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 2 years as of 1st of January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 5–6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3100–4000 € per month (before taxes).  

A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
