We are now seeking

University Lecturer in Cybersecurity

to join us in the Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Research Unit and Oulu University Secure Programming Group (OUSPG) at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE).

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group led by Prof. Juha Röning from the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Oulu and the Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Group, BISG. You will collaborate closely with Professor Kimmo Halunen and the OUSPG  on teaching the new cybersecurity specialization in our Computer Engineering Master’s program. In addition, you will contribute to the research in the OUSPG with your expertise.

About the job

  • As a university lecturer, your responsibilities include teaching some courses in the field of cybersecurity based on your own interests and the needs of the curriculum.
  • you will conduct research and supervise doctoral researchers and students in the field of cybersecurity
  • You are also expected to make research project and grant proposals to help in acquiring competed research funding and assist in the leading and management of the projects

Who are you?

You should have great potential for a successful scientific career. You should have demonstrated experience and qualifications in teaching at the university level. You should have also demonstrated research activity. Your research interests should fit with the OUSPG research themes, which cover vulnerability research in different domains such as AI, critical infrastructures, and IoT; cryptography;, and cybersecurity awareness. Teaching in Finnish is also expected.

We expect from you:

  • Doctoral degree in applicable research field.
  • You must have proven teaching skills and qualifications in a university environment
  • To demonstrate the ability to work independently
  • Expertise in the field of research and required methodology via scientific international publications.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Finnish skills are seen as advance.

Salary

The position is filled until further notice and as soon as possible or upon mutual agreement.

The salary will be based on levels 6-7 of the requirement level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 4000-4800 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.
