We are now looking for a
to join the Structural Design and Engineering Mechanics Research Group of the Civil Engineering Research Unit (CIV). The doctoral researcher is positioned in the subject of numerical simulation of structures in civil engineering applications.
The Civil Engineering Research Unit (CIV) is networked regionally, nationally and internationally and provides undergraduate and postgraduate education for demanding positions in the private and public sectors. The unit conducts research in interaction with other disciplines and the surrounding society and has a Bachelor level double degree program with the Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT) in China's Jiangsu province.
The position includes working on research projects that aim to develop methodologies to utilize physics-based simulation technology for designing sustainable engineering structures. The developed models are typically based on the theory of elasticity or plasticity and the applied methods range from the finite element method (FEM) to explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). In addition, understanding the principles of verification, validation and uncertainty quantification related to engineering decision-making process is of utmost importance (simulation governance). Moreover, achieving robust interoperability is essential for efficient collaboration and accurate data exchange within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
The main tasks of the position include

The position is filled for a fixed three-year period.
The salary will be based on level 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). The typical starting salary for a doctoral researcher is approx. 2500-2800€ per month (before taxes). A trial period of six months is applied for the position.
