Faculty of Science, NMR

The University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary, international research university, with about 3,600 employees who produce new knowledge based on high-standards research and provide research based education to build a more sustainable, smarter, and more humane world. The University of Oulu community has about 17,000 people in total. Our northern scientific community operates globally and creates conditions for the emergence of innovations.

We are now looking for a

Doctoral Researcher (4 years)

at the NMR Research Unit, Faculty of Science, University of Oulu.

About the job

The position is part of the Research Council of Finland research project Enhancing NMR Sensitivity Through Metal-Free Catalysis“ led by Associate Professor Vladimir Zhivonitko and involves aspects of experimental NMR spectroscopy, nuclear spin hyperpolarization using parahydrogen, molecular modelling, and catalysis using metal-free compounds. As a doctoral researcher, you will be part of a multidisciplinary research group and work on studying, designing, and applying new types of metal-free catalysts for parahydrogen-induced polarization (PHIP) and signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE) utilizing experimental and theoretical methods. The specific focus of the project will depend on the specific research interests of the doctoral researcher. We are open to all candidates who have strong background, experience, and enthusiasm in working at the intersection of chemistry, spectroscopy, and physics.

The position is located at the NMR Research Unit within the Faculty of Science and the degree program in physics. The research unit consists of a multidisciplinary team of physicists and chemists working on experimental, theoretical and computational research on magnetic resonance as well as molecular magnetism. The research spans a wide field of topics at the intersection of chemistry and physics. The unit currently employs 24 people of whom about half have come from outside of Finland. The working language of the research unit is English.
