We are now looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher, Health Data Science in Life-course Epidemiology

to join us in Research unit of Population Health at the Faculty of Medicine, in the research group of Life-course Epidemiology led by Sylvain Sebert.

About the job

We are looking for a talented and creative Data Scientist with a very solid foundation in mathematical sciences and statistics to develop longitudinal methods for causal inference in life-course epidemiology.

  • As a postdoctoral researcher you will apply and develop machine learning and Bayesian methods adapted to longitudinal design
  • In the Research Council of Finland Project 'Body weight trajectories; Molecular entropy and aging with multi-morbidities; life-course models and pathways' your responsibilities will include
    • developing genome-wide prediction of human growth models
    • Assisting the existing team in developing new methods to model human aging process (DNA methylation aging, entropy, multimorbidity)
  • You will also be part of the multidisciplinary research group in Life-course Epidemiology with max 10% teaching duties to Master level students or 10% support in developing high quality FAIR data management.

Who are you?

This position requires robust experience in machine learning and Bayesian models using multidimensional human data. You must be fluent in coding in more than one computing system.

You are passionate about making meaningful research and like working with others. You have experience in working in different environments and settings.

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

  • Doctoral degree in mathematics, data sciences, or computational sciences
  • Previous experience with genomics and multi-modal analysis
  • Programming and coding fluency
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

We also appreciate

  • Experience with multiple study design and experimental methods
  • Experience in Bayesian methods
  • Interest in causal inference

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 21 months as of 01.03.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the level OV5 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 3800-4500 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.
