We are now looking for a

Professor of Forensic Medicine, part time (30 %) 

to join us in the Research Unit of Biomedicine and Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Oulu 

Research Unit of Biomedicine and Internal Medicine (BioIM) is a multidisciplinary unit with research and teaching in the fields of Forensic Medicine, Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physiology, Microbiology and Immunology. BioIM brings together clinical research and basic science to understand the fundamental causes of diseases, develop new diagnostic methods and treatments and increase their effectiveness to promote health and well-being of individuals and populations especially in the fields of cardiovascular, metabolic, and respiratory diseases and immunology. 

About the job

The duties of a Professor of Forensic Medicine include: 

  • planning, developing, supervising and implementing undergraduate education
  • performing, leading and guiding research in the field
  • being responsible for scientific postgraduate education
  • acting as the person responsible for specialist training in forensic medicine.

The position holder should agree with the Finnish Institute of Health Care and Welfare on clinical work and duties.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Doctoral degree in medicine 
  • Specialist degree in forensic medicine  
  • High level of scientific qualification 
  • Experience in conducting scientific research 
  • Ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching 
  • Experience in supervising theses 
  • Proof of international cooperation in the field of research they represent 
  • Ability to act as an Academic Leader 
  • Fluent Finnish and English language skills 

Salary

The position is part time and permanent as of 01.10.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. 

The salary will be based on the levels 8-9 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary (100 %) will be approx. 5700-6500 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.

    4. Practical experience in teaching and efforts to improve teaching
    5. Description of educational material (curricula, handouts, assignments, workbooks)
    6. Professional development as a teacher
    7. Evaluation of teaching (student evaluations, peer evaluations, awards, and assessed test lectures)
    8. Plans for future directions of teaching in the discipline concerned
  7. Details regarding acquisition of research funds 
  8. A brief research and action plan 
  9. Contact details of 2–4 persons available for recommendation.
