We are now looking for a

Project Researcher

to join us in Arctic Biobank and Research Unit of Population Health at the Faculty of Medicine.

The Arctic Biobank hosts large population-based sample collections from Northern Finland, providing data for high-quality research projects. Research Unit of Population Health (PopH) is a multidisciplinary research and teaching unit that approaches questions related to human health through different disciplines. Our research is focused on utilizing large-scale biological data to investigate the genetic and biological background of multifactorial diseases. Our interests include, but are not limited to, cardiometabolic and women’s health related diseases. We use state-to-art methods in human genetics and primarily utilize data produced by large biobank projects, such as the FinnGen project, in our research.

About the job  

As a project researcher, you will participate in the activities of the Arctic Biobank and study the genetic and biological background of multifactorial diseases and traits. Your tasks will include:

  • Management of biological data in the Arctic Biobank
  • Computational processing and analysis of large-scale biological data
  • Investigating human multifactorial diseases and traits utilizing modern methods of genetic epidemiology such as genome-wide association studies

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g., genetics, biology, biochemistry, data science)
  • A strong motivation towards high-quality research
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good IT skills

We also appreciate:

  • Experience in analyzing biological data
  • Finnish language skills

Salary

The position is fixed term starting from 1.8.2025 until 31.7.2027. The start can be postponed if necessary. 

The salary will be based on the levels 7-8 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2800-3300 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
