The Centre for Languages and Communication Lingua of the University of Oulu is calling for applicants for the position of a

University Teacher of English

a part-time, fixed-term contract from September 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026.

The Centre for Languages and Communication Lingua offers language teaching in eight different languages to degree students at the University of Oulu. We also offer training based on the needs of university staff and working life. We continuously develop our courses in cooperation with all faculties and other stakeholders. Planning of our curricula and courses is closely tied to working life and internationalization.

Tasks

University Teachers duties include teaching and evaluating students of various degree programs in field-related and work-life relevant English language and communication courses.  Duties also include development of teaching and learning materials as well as participation in the activities of the unit.

Your teaching duty will include the teaching of English language field-related courses at the B2–C1 level with a focus on interactive communicative skills, collaboration skills, learning skills as well as working life relevance.  Your target student groups are bachelor’s and master’s degree students in different faculties. The language of teaching is English.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced English teacher who is passionate about teaching. We require the ability to teach English language and communication on different skill levels and the ability to create learning materials for heterogeneous groups of learners.

For you to succeed and thrive in the task, we require:

  • An applicable master's degree in the field of English
  • 60 credits of pedagogical studies or at least 25 credits of university pedagogical studies
  • Excellent oral and written skills of English language
  • Good skills in teaching, which will be evaluated based on your teaching portfolio and an interview
  • Fluency in Finnish and English
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong digital-pedagogical skills to organize blended language learning.

In addition, we appreciate:

  • Experience of teaching English at university level
  • Experience of language assessment based on the CEFR framework
  • Prior experience of working in multicultural work communities
  • Experience and skills in acknowledging accessibility and the ability to create learning materials for heterogeneous groups of learners
  • Experience, skills, and enthusiasm in promoting internationalization and mobility
  • Experience of conducting research related to the learning or teaching of languages and communication.

Salary for the position

The position is part-time with an 84 % workload. The salary follows the requirement level 5 for teaching and research staff according to the General Collective Agreement for universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The salary for new employees in similar positions is typically 3 700–3 900 €/month.

The employment relationship is subject to a four-month trial period.
