A Postdoctoral researcher

who will focus on bioinformatic analyses of genomic data obtained from archaeological finds of domesticated animals. 

About the job

You will be working with and supported by a group of enthusiastic researchers in a multidisciplinary project that combines historical, archaeological and genetic methods to study the early history of poultry and horses in Northeastern Europe. This project is also a part of the research of the Wildlife Genomics Research group (https://wildlifegenomics.wordpress.com/). Specifically, you will produce and analyze genomic data obtained from archaeological finds of poultry and horses from the region around the Baltic Sea.

Who are you?

We expect that you have:

  • A PhD in biology (or a relevant field) obtained no more than ten years ago, and prior experience in bioinformatic analyses of genomic data, and knowledge of population genomics
  • Demonstrated effective writing skills through high-quality publications, including some international experience and networking
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Fluent in English, both in oral and written communication.

Appointment and salary

The position is fixed-term for 4 years as of 1.9.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter, ending 31.8.2029. The salary will be based on levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for Finnish universities' university-level teaching and research staff. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approximately 3800-4200 € per month, depending on the qualifications. A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
