We are now looking for

a Postdoctoral Researcher

to join us in the Mathematical Sciences Research unit at the Faculty of Science. The Mathematics Research Group in Oulu carries out active research in the themes of fractal geometry, dynamical systems, geometric measure theory, geometric analysis, and harmonic analysis. It continues the strong tradition of Finnish mathematical analysis. The group is well recognized internationally.

About the job

The postdoctoral researcher will work in the research group of Professor Ville Suomala in the project Fractals and randomness, which is funded by the Research Council of Finland. The selected researcher will conduct research both individually and as a part of the research group and our extensive international research network. About five percent of the working time will be allocated for teaching duties.

Who are you?

We expect you to have the ability to conduct research in the themes of the project both independently and as part of the research group. Specifically, we expect you to have:

  • Doctoral degree in mathematics. The degree must be obtained no more than 10 years ago.
  • Research experience and knowledge in fractal geometry, geometric measure theory, probability, harmonic analysis, or other fields related to or complementing the theme fractals and randomness.
  • Good academic communication skills in English.

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 2 years. The starting date is negotiable, but could be as early as 1.10.2025.

The salary will be based on the level 5 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 3800€-4000€ per month (before taxes).  

A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
