We are now applying for the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory at the University of Oulu

for an employment relationship that is currently in force.
Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory is a separate unit of the University of Oulu, whose national task is long-term high-quality measurements related to geophysics and space science, development of measurement methods and equipment, 24/7 monitoring of geothreats and space situation picture, and research and intensive teaching related to the field. The observatory produces measurements for local, national and international research needs and develops data-based services and new measurement devices in cooperation with research institutes and companies. The Observatory's Laboratory of Technology and Safety supports this activity.
The observation activities of the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory include measurements of the Earth's magnetic field, ionosphere, northern lights, cosmic radiation and seismic activity in more than 20 locations in Northern Fennoscandia and Finland, as well as in Antarctica. The observatory develops measurement methods and instruments in the field, theories and models related to research fields, and conducts scientific research. The Observatory has about 30 employees.
Tasks include supporting observation activities at the observatory, testing equipment, and participating as an expert in space technology projects. For the needs of instrument development Sodankylä Cleanroom and testing laboratories have been built in the star, the maintenance and further development of which is taken care of by the laboratory engineer.

Salary for the task
The position is valid until further notice as of 1 September 2026 (or by agreement). The position is located at the MV10 level of other experts and support staff in the salary system of the university. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance is paid, which is no more than 50% of the job-specific salary component. Salary in similar positions is typically between EUR 4300 and EUR 4600 per month. A probationary period of 6 months applies.
