The University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary, international research university, with about 3,600 employees who produce new knowledge based on high-standards research and provide research based education to build a more sustainable, smarter, and more humane world. The University of Oulu community has about 17,000 people in total. Our northern scientific community operates globally and creates conditions for the emergence of innovations.
We are now looking for
Postdoctoral researcher in non-equilibrium theory of superconducting quantum device arrays
to join us in Nano and Molecular Systems Research Unit at the Faculty of Science.
The postdoctoral researcher position is in the recently funded Academy of Finland research project “Non-equilibrium many-body phenomena in arrays of superconducting quantum devices” 2023-2027 led by Research Fellow Matti Silveri.
We are looking for a talented research-oriented person interested in theoretical and computational research on non-equilibrium quantum matter physics, such as dynamical quantum phase transitions and sub/superradiance, in arrays of transmon and fluxonium devices. The research focus of the postdoctoral researcher will be in the focal point of non-equilibrium phenomena, condensed matter physics, open quantum systems, quantum devices and quantum information.
The postdoctoral researcher will carry out research work within a research team, publish research results in leading international scientific journals, take part in funding acquisition, contribute in teaching (max 5 % of the total yearly working hours) and supervision. In addition, the postdoctoral research may participate in administrative tasks of the research unit.
The position is to be filled by a highly motivated applicant. Successful candidate must have obtained doctorate degree in physics or in a closely related field within the last 10 years but latest by the start of the work contract.
In addition, we appreciate
demonstrated strong research background
strong fundamental knowledge in non-equilibrium phenomena, condensed matter physics, open quantum systems, quantum devices, quantum information, or superconducting quantum circuits
good record of scientific publishing
readiness for working closely with experimentalists and other theorists
experience in international collaboration
skills in team working and communication
experience in university teaching and supervision
The position requires spoken and written fluency in English.
The position is fixed-term for 3 years with a start date no later than January 1, 2024.
The salary will be based on the levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3600-4200 € per month (before taxes).
A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
Interested? If yes, please apply by 30.9.2023 (23:59 Finnish local time) through our recruitment system.
