We are now looking for a

Coordinator

to join us in the Biodiverse Anthropocenes (ANTS) research program for a full time fixed-term position lasting until 31 December 2026. The program forms a key part of the national profiling actions supported by the Academy of Finland.

Biodiverse Anthropocenes is an interdisciplinary research program launched in 2021 and led by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities in close collaboration with the Faculty of Education at the University of Oulu. The program aims to expand and renew excellence in research on biodiversity, environment and society at the University of Oulu. It will open new research directions that will advance and deepen knowledge on human-environment relations through transdisciplinary research, in particular on the Arctic and Polar regions.

Over the past two years, Biodiverse Anthropocenes has established itself as a leading centre in Finland on the study of environment and society, supporting high-caliber research conducted across the natural and human sciences at the University of Oulu, while strengthening the university’s internationalization and societal impact.

About the job

Your primary responsibilities are the following:

  • Planning, developing and implementing program activities to promote transdisciplinary research together with program directors, recruited researchers, and the wider university community.
  • Leading international communication about programme activities via social media channels and web-based platforms 
  • Planning and organizing events at the University: guest lectures, working meetings, international workshops and conferences.
  • Liaising with the University’s profiling programme administration, coordinators, faculties, participating research units, and focus institutes.
  • Leading annual reporting and indicator follow-ups.
  • Building collaborations and relations with other Finnish and international universities.
  • Organizing and attending national and international meetings and science policy events and benchmarking visits related to the program.
  • Organizing the program management board and steering committee meetings and taking care of meeting minutes.
  • Implementing the activities of the VisitANTS visiting researchers programme.
  • Other duties associated with managing transdisciplinary research initiatives.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

  • a Master’s degree
  • profound familiarity with your own field
  • prior experience of transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary research communities and international academic environments
  • excellent communication skills, teamwork abilities, project management expertise, organizational and time management skills
  • excellent written and spoken English language skills

We also appreciate:

  • a doctoral degree
  • familiarity with the Finnish language

Salary

The position is fixed term starting from June 1st 2023 (or as agreed) until 31 December 2026.

The salary will be based on the levels 9-11 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3300-4500 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
