Professor or Tenure track Associate Professor of Business Analytics with a special focus on the digitalization and green transition of the automotive sector

to join us in the Martti Ahtisaari Institute at the University of Oulu Business School.

About the job

The University of Oulu Business School, Martti Ahtisaari Institute will establish a new professor or tenure track position in Business Analytics with a special focus on digitalization, analytics in digital platforms, and green transition of the automotive sector. The professor's responsibilities will include research, education in business analytics, and stakeholder collaboration to support the sector's digital and green transition.

The selected person is also expected to strengthen multidisciplinary research collaboration within the University of Oulu and with other national and international partners and disseminating the research findings to the broader society.


Potential research topics may include but are not limited to the following:

  • How will the utilization of data and artificial intelligence transform the sector and its future?
  • How may new data-driven decision-making support the electrification and green transition of the sector?
  • How will new digital technologies and technological solutions, such as autonomous vehicles, disrupt the sector and its business strategies?
  • What kind of new business opportunities, business models, and ecosystem structures may emerge within the sector?
  • How will the automotive sector and its digital platforms influence other sectors and transform societies in the future?

Who are you?

Our tenure track (Assistant and Associate Professor) is positioned for exceptionally talented researchers with a high potential to advance in their careers. The Professor position is targeted for experienced and highly qualified candidates who have already advanced in their careers. The top candidates will undergo an evaluation by external, international experts and are required to reach top scores (5-6 on a scale from 1 to 6 for scientific activity and as the overall score) in order to qualify for the position.

The general criteria for each career level are as follows:

Qualifications for a tenure track Associate Professor position: You must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research work and relevant teaching skills. You must have the ability to lead research as well as have experience in acquiring external research funding. We also expect you to have sufficient and relevant experience in international scientific work and evidence of international cooperation.

Qualifications for a Professor position: You must demonstrate high-quality academic qualifications and experience of leading research. You are able to provide high-quality teaching based on research and also supervise thesis work. You are expected to show evidence of international cooperation and should already be an academic leader in your field.

To succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you experience related to the automotive sector. The professor or Tenure Track Associate professor is expected to build a research group that generates new knowledge and innovative solutions for the automotive sector's business and service development.

Salary

The associate level will be on tenure track positions with five-year terms at each level. A researcher appointed to a tenure track position has the opportunity to advance systematically through the tenure track career levels towards permanent professorship, provided that the performance criteria are met. The professor position is permanent.

Selected person is starting 1.1.2026 or as soon as possible there after. A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.

The associate professor's, the salary is based on levels 6-7 and in professor position salary will be based on levels 8-9 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. for associate professor 4000-5800€/ month (before taxes) and for professor position gross salary will be approx. 5700-6500 €/month before taxes.

  7. A brief research and action plan
  8. Contact details of 2–4 persons available for recommendation.
