Doctoral researcher

who is excellent in study record and ambitious in research objectives to a fixed-term (3 years) position in Mining Engineering.

Oulu Mining School is responsible for doing research and delivering teaching for the students from Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, Geophysics, Geology and other subjects of civil engineering.

About the job

The duties of doctoral researcher will primarily focus on optimum blasting

  • As a doctoral researcher you will mainly work on a EU research project on sustainable ore extraction from mining and mineral processing.
  • In the project, you will be tasked with conducting field blast tests, performing laboratory experiments, and carrying out numerical simulations.
  • You will also be part of Mining research group within OMS

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • A Master degree in Mining Engineering or a related field such as Civil Engineering.
  • Excellent study record.
  • Good experience in experimental study on rock blasting or rock dynamics.
  • Good communication and collaboration.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

To be a successful candidate, you should

  1. have in-depth knowledge of rock mechanics, particularly rock dynamics or stress wave theory,
  2. be very interested in engineering applications,
  3. be ambitious in carrying out top-class research work in mining-related fields, and 
  4. have a strong commitment to research and other tasks. In addition, scientific publications and mining industry experience are merits.

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 3 years as of 15.04.2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2300-2600 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
