Postdoctoral Researchers in Synchrotron Radiation Based Materials Characterization

to join us in Nano and Molecular Systems Research unit at the Faculty of Science.

The research unit consists of a multidisciplinary team of physicists and chemists working on experimental, theoretical and computational research on various materials. The research spans a wide field of topics at the intersection of physics and chemistry. Working language of the research unit is English.

About the job

We are now looking for two postdoctoral researchers for temporary three (3) year positions to support the research unit’s research in synchrotron-based science related to one or several of the fields of physics atomic and molecular research, materials science, surface science and catalysis.

Your tasks include:

  • contributing to the advanced characterization activities in the NANOMO unit, especially to synchrotron radiation campaigns
  • supervision of post graduate researchers, BSc and MSc students
  • participating in the teaching offered by the unit
  • acquisition of extramural research funding (e.g. Research Council of Finland, Business Finland, Horizon Europe and various foundations).

Who are you?

We expect from you:

  • Doctoral degree in physics or related field in experimental atomic and molecular physics, materials science, surfaced science, or catalysis
  • Documented extensive experience in use of synchrotron radiation -based characterization methods and related data analysis and interpretation
  • Experience in use of laboratory-based characterization methods and related data analysis
  • Experience in preparation of funding proposals
  • Fluent English language
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

We also appreciate

  • Experience in instrumentation (design, building, maintenance, and operation of research equipment)
  • Experience in programming (e.g. tools for data acquisition and data analysis)
  • Experience in statistical data analysis and/or using AI based methods in data analysis
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in multinational and multidisciplinary research collaborations

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 3 years starting as soon as possible.

The salary will be based on the levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3600-4200 € per month (before taxes).  

A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
