We are now looking for a

Project Researcher

to join us in the Learning and Learning Processes Research Unit at the Faculty of Education and Psychology.

Learning and Learning Processes Research Unit (LLP) tackles the following problem: How can we increase human learning competence in the age of AI? The unit’s expertise lies in learning sciences, integrating theoretical perspectives on the social, cognitive, motivational, and emotional processes of learning in different learning contexts. We focus on understanding individual and group learning. It employs multimodal methodological approaches toward research.

About the job

A major barrier to disseminating and democratizing scientific advances is access to languages that dominate scientific content but also the mismatch between the formal language of scientists and the everyday expressions of the general public. In this project we aim to translate science, not just across language but across language style, not just to the written form but to an engaging spoken form.

  • As a project researcher, you will be lead in the identification and co-creation of science learning materials in the Finnish language.
  • You will organize workshops with Finnish educators and science communicators in order to gain an understanding of how science topics can be communicated in Finnish to a non-technical audience.
  • You will work with a multidisciplinary, international research team who will transform these learning materials into interactive technologies. You will be responsible for leading demonstrations of those technologies with Finnish-speaking university students.
  • You will be part of a multidisciplinary research group across the Learning and Educational Technology Lab and the ARTICULATE project, supporting the development of AI technologies which invite self-regulated learning.

What we offer

  • The support of an experienced and enthusiastic team, where you can share your expertise and grow as an expert.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

  • Master's degree in learning sciences, science pedagogy, Finnish linguistics, or related areas. A Master's degree must have been completed before the start of the project researcher's work
  • Strong communication skills in the Finnish language
  • Strong written and spoken English abilities
  • Experience conducting research
  • Communication and collaboration skills

We also appreciate:

  • Experience working in science communication or science teaching
  • Experience working with or designing educational technologies
