University Trainees

to join the Nano and Molecular Systems (NANOMO) research unit for the summer of 2026. University traineeship should be part of the applicant's studies.

Trainee positions

Position 1:  NANOMO spectroscopy lab 

Job description:  Assisting in the NANOMO spectroscopy lab.

Required: BSc in physics. Experience with programming and hands on experience with laboratory equipment or similar a plus. 

Duration:  2 months between May and August

Position 2:  NANOMO Superconducting quantum devices and quantum computing, SuperQ 

Job description:  Quantum programming and algorithms. Modelling simple molecules, processes and materials with quantum computers.

Recommended competencies: Quantum mechanics I, II or similar knowledge, and good programming skills. 

Duration: 3 months between May and August

Position 3:  NANOMO Superconducting quantum devices and quantum computing, SuperQ 

Job description:  Practical programming of quantum computers, for example, on Finnish Q50 quantum computer. Study of cross-talk and other similar errors in actual quantum computers.

Recommended competencies: Quantum mechanics I, II or similar knowledge, and good programming skills. 

Duration:  3 months between May and August

Position 4:  NANOMO Superconducting quantum devices and quantum computing, SuperQ 

Job description:  Numerical modelling of qubit arrays in a waveguide, many-body physics with qubits. 

Recommended competencies: Quantum mechanics I, II or similar knowledge, and good programming skills. 

Duration:  3 months between May and August

Position 5:  NANOMO Functional Materials 

Job description:  Functional surface engineering either for photocatalysis, or water/oil separation or biomimic lightwave guidance.

Recommended competencies: Experience with lab works or chemical physics 

Duration:  2 months between May and August

Position 6:  NANOMO Computational modeling of materials 

Job description: Computational ab initio modeling of metal organic frameworks.

Recommended competencies: Quantum mechanics I and II, Solid state physics, Condensed matter physics

Position 7:   NANOMO Functional Materials 

Job description:  Photocatalytic degradation of microplastics 

Duration:  2 months between May and August

Salary

The positions are fixed-term for two or three months. A trial period, as outlined in the general collective agreement for universities, is applied for the position. The salary is 1687,47€/month.
