Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, CWC - Radio Technologies
The University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary, international research university, with about 3,600 employees who produce new knowledge based on high-standards research and provide research based education to build a more sustainable, smarter, and more humane world. The University of Oulu community has about 17,000 people in total. Our northern scientific community operates globally and creates conditions for the emergence of innovations. We are now looking for a To join us in the 6G Flagship program at the Center for Wireless Communications - Radio Technologies at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. 6G Flagship is the world’s first 6G research program, a global leader in 5G adoption, and a preferred research partner in 6G development. We promote high-quality 6G research to create future know-how and sustainable solutions for society’s needs in the 2030s. We operate under the University of Oulu, which also funds us together with the Academy of Finland. Research in 6G Flagship is organized into four interrelated strategic research areas (SRA) where scientific breakthroughs are sought in the development of fundamental technology components for 6G systems. They are: This position is part of the Wireless Connectivity SRA. Wireless networks have traditionally been designed with moderate quality of service (QoS) guarantees, whereas most mission-critical communications, e.g., in industrial networks, are realized over wired networks which are usually robust but not as flexible as wireless links. Recent development in wireless technologies, such as introducing the ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) service class in 5G NR, opened the door for wireless networks to be deployed to serve mission-critical applications with stringent QoS guarantees. The shared nature of the wireless channel imposes different challenges in maintaining the stringent QoS requirements of mission-critical communication and ensuring that the network is resilient. As a post-doctoral researcher in resilient wireless networks for 6G, you will investigate interesting and challenging research questions such as You will be part of a multidisciplinary research group investigating different aspects of critical machine-type communications for various vertical applications. To succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: We also appreciate The position is fixed-term for three (3) years as of the 1st of September 2023 or as soon as possible after that. The salary will be based on levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3600-4200 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position. Interested?
