Doctoral researcher in educational technology

to join in the "The Power of Teachers' Online Mentorship for AI Partnership (Power T/A)" project at the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Oulu (Finland).

The Power of Teachers' Online Mentorship for AI Partnership (Power T/A) project, funded by the Research Council of Finland, aims to explore the integration of AI-based technologies into teacher mentorship and instructional activities. The project focuses on understanding how AI tools can enhance teachers' professional development, particularly through online mentorship, and how they can be leveraged to support teaching practices in diverse educational contexts. By analyzing the experiences of pre-service and in-service teachers, the project seeks to identify best practices for the effective use of AI in education, ultimately contributing to the advancement of teacher training on both national and international scales.

About the job

As a doctoral researcher, you will:

  • Conduct research within the "The Power of Teachers' Online Mentorship for AI Partnership (Power T/A)" project, funded by the Research Council of Finland.
  • Investigate the integration of AI-based technologies in education and teacher training.
  • Contribute to the development of case studies and research publications on the use of AI tools in instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams both within the university and internationally.
  • Present research findings at conferences and contribute to the dissemination of project results.

In this role, you will also become part of a dynamic and supportive research group dedicated to advancing the field of educational technology.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods, with the ability to apply these techniques to educational research.
  • Familiarity with the Finnish K-12 educational system and its structure, policies, and practices.
  • A strong interest in exploring the affordances of AI-based applications in education, particularly how they can enhance teaching and learning processes.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Master's degree in the field of education or a related discipline.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in IT and data analysis skills, particularly in the use of digital tools for educational research.

Additional Merits (Considered an Advantage):

  • Finnish language skills.
  • Experience in teaching or instructional design, particularly in the use of technology-enhanced learning environments.

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 3 years as of 01.01.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2300-2600 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
