A Doctoral Researcher
to join us in the Marketing, Management and International Business research unit at the Oulu Business School.
Oulu Business School is an AACSB accredited international research and educational institute for economic sciences. It is one of the eight faculties of the University of Oulu and has about 1500 students and 110 members of the staff. It creates expertise for rapidly changing global business challenges aiming to build a more sustainable, intelligent and humane world.
About the job
- As a doctoral researcher you are a member of the “International Entrepreneurship as an Engine of National Identity (EntreNational)” research project funded by the Research Council of Finland.
- On your part you will address some elements of the EntreNational’s research question, ‘How does international entrepreneurship (IE) shape the development of national identity (NI)?’
- Your doctoral research will contribute to the field of international entrepreneurship but has connections to other business and human science disciplines as the work takes place in a multidisciplinary research setting.
- In EntreNational project your responsibilities include the collection and analysis of historical, qualitative data on chosen case firms and on the historical contexts over the period 1865-2024.
- You will be part of a multidisciplinary research group in which you will act as a responsible researcher and will collaborate with others in conducting research, writing research publications and communicating the findings to various audiences.
- You will contribute to the research unit with some teaching assisting and administrative duties.

Who are you?
In order to succeed in this work, we expect from you:
- Master's degree in international business/entrepreneurship/international business management or an other relevant field with significant studies in the mentioned fields
- Excellent previous study records
- Fluent written and spoken English and excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of and some experience in qualitative research methods
- Ability to operate in a modern university infrastructure within the frame of 1612 hours/year as specified in the work plan

- Experience in case study research, historical research, discursive approaches and discourse analytical methods
Salary
The position is fixed-term for 4 years as of 1.9.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 2500-2900 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
