Coordinator for the 6GESS project

to join us in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, CWC Networks and Systems research unit for a fixed-term position funded by the Research Council of Finland, lasting until 31.12.2026. The 6G-Enabled Sustainable Society (6GESS) project is one of the University of Oulu's research profiling projects, which strengthens the University of Oulu's research strategy.

6GESS is an interdisciplinary research project on a future sustainable society through digitalization and 6G, which focuses on health and energy research applications, leveraging the technical expertise of the University of Oulu's 6G Flagship program. The 6GESS project involves four faculties of the University of Oulu (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology, and Oulu Business School). The goal is to create a research hub based on interdisciplinary, cutting-edge research where new wireless-based technologies and applications are studied. They are used to form future healthcare and energy solutions and enable the active participation of healthcare and energy production operators and citizens in using and developing data-based and digitized solutions. The profiling area strengthens and combines the already existing strong basic research of the University of Oulu in medicine, health technology, and wireless sensors and systems.

About the job

Your duties as a coordinator include, in cooperation with another coordinator, among others:

  • Plan and implement project activities (promoting interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and other activities) together with the project director, deputy director, steering group, research groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate with faculties (research coordinators and service managers), research units included in the project's scope, and the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS).
  • Liaising with other universities and sector research institutes in Finland and abroad.
  • Communication planning with two communication professionals (e.g., websites, social media, etc.).
  • Planning and monitoring the project budget and reporting to the director, deputy director, steering group, and controllers.
  • Preparation and minutes of management group meetings.
  • Participating in and organizing national and international meetings and science policy events that are central to the project.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

  • a higher university degree in a suitable field (a doctoral degree is considered an advantage)
  • knowledge of the university as a working community
  • knowledge of the multi- and interdisciplinary research communities and international working communities
  • Excellent interaction and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong and fluent oral and written presentation skills in English and Finnish
  • IT skills

Salary

The position is fixed-term from 01.01.2025 (or as agreed) until 31.12.2026. The work can be partly done remotely and on-site at the Linnanmaa campus of the University of Oulu. 

The salary will be based on the MV10-11 level of the demand level chart for other experts and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 4100-4600 € per month. A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.
