Two Doctoral Researchers

to join Learning and Educational Technology Research Lab (LET Lab), Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Oulu.

In this position, you will participate in the national 1000 doctorates pilot programme. As a partner in the programme, the University of Oulu is dedicated to ensuring you have a carefully planned and guided doctoral research experience which will be tailored to support your career plans, enabling you to continue into demanding expert positions in the changing job markets in industry, the public sector and academia.

About the job

We are looking for two doctoral researchers to contribute of research on self-, so and socially shared regulation in learning at the LET Lab. The two themes are:

  1. a) Unpacking the role of motivation and/or emotions in collaborative learning in the era of advanced learning technologies (PI Hanna Järvenoja) starting 1.8.2024
  2. b) Understanding self-regulated learning processes in and for human-AI collaboration (PI Sanna Järvelä) starting 1.1.2025

Who are you?

 In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Master’s degree in education
  • Understanding of learning theories and self-regulated learning theory
  • Fluent Finnish (research will be conducted in Finnish schools)
  • Agentic work approach and good collaboration skills
  • Have some experience in research data collection and/or data coding/analysis

Position and salary

Doctoral researchers selected in the pilot programme will by default be offered a three-year (36 month) fixed-term full-time employment contract by University of Oulu. These positions are available for highly motivated and talented researchers wishing to undertake and complete training for a research-focused doctoral degree, starting 1.8.2024 and 1.1.2025. A six-month trial period is applied in the position.

The salary of the selected doctoral researchers will be paid monthly. The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2500-2800 € per month (before taxes).  

The employment contracts are based on a total working time of 1 612 hours per year, which gives the doctoral researchers freedom to plan their working hours.

The position is fixed-term for 3 years.
